Honeymoon destination apparel
As the last strains of music fade and the confetti has been cleared, the wedding draws to a close. But that doesn’t mean the fun is over. In fact it’s just about to begin. For now, the honeymoon is just round the corner. Most couples decide to take their honeymoon shortly after the wedding. But some like to relax and get over the frantic pace of wedding activities before setting out on their honeymoon. If you’ve planned yours shortly after, it’s time you kept your bags packed for your honeymoon before the wedding itself, so you don’t want to be scrambling around for stuff at the last minute.
There are a few things to keep in mind when shopping for your honeymoon apparel or deciding what you should take along.
Where you will be going
For a lot of couples, deciding on a honeymoon spot is a time of tough choices, finding something that befits their idea of romance and yet suits their budget. Most honeymooners choose a popular honeymoon destination – either one that friends have been to and spoken highly about, or one that they have always dreamt of visiting together or even a place that holds a certain lure and that offers them something different from the country they come from. For most people living in cold countries, the ideal spot is somewhere warm, where they can soak up the sun. For those living in hot places, they’d like to go somewhere cold that also provides an additional excuse to cuddle up!
What to pack
Based on the location you plan to visit and your destination of choice for your honeymoon, load up your bags accordingly. If you have narrowed down on a place with cooler climes, like for instance the Swiss Alps or even Alaska, then take along warmer gear. On the other hand, for a warm, summery getaway like an island retreat or a tropical paradise, less is more! Must-have apparel for a ‘cool honeymoon’ includes long-sleeve shirts, tees and sweatshirts to keep you warm. In addition, a jacket would be an essential. Sturdy boots or closed shoes are also a requirement. If you’re going on a skiing trip, take along the equipment you need. If you’re going to a summery place with a pleasant, warm climate then pack accordingly. Summery dresses, halter tops, tank tops, wraparound skirts, sarong and of course the essential swimsuit or bikini. For guys, shorts, Hawaiian shirts, casual tees and swimming trunks should suffice. Take a couple of dressy tops or a semi-formal outfit in the event you want to experience the nightlife and live it up at a casino or a pub. Flip flops, sandals, and maybe a pair of fancy shoes to go with your nice outfit for a night on the town, should be just fine.
Accessories
For the cold heights, gloves, winter cap and all the other essentials that you would need to weather the cold. For the beach or a hot location, don’t forget your shades and a wide brimmed hat to protect your delicate complexion! And of course, suntan lotion! You also don’t want to forget to pack your camera to capture all your fun moments and preserve some tangible memories of your first trip together as newlyweds.
Shopping
When shopping for your honeymoon or buying lingerie, keep in mind that with pre-wedding planning and jitters as well as a concerted effort to lose weight, it’s a good idea not to make any assumptions regarding your size. Ensure that you recheck your measurements so that you get a good fit when you are shopping for either clothes or innerwear. Don’t succumb to buying things only because they are trendy or in fashion unless you are sure they suit you and flatter your appearance.
Lingerie
When shopping for lingerie, you have a variety of options to choose from, be it…
a) Naughty
Choose from cheeky thongs, brief g-strings, fitted tankinis or bikini sets. Make him do a double take by giving him the best of naughty and nice on your honeymoon.
b) Sexy
There’s a range of sensuous and slinky options in this category, right from negligees and teddies to garters and itsy bitsy confections in frothy lace, flowing satin or see-through chiffon.
c) Suggestive
You get some really great hot pants and innerwear with cute captions like ‘I love you’ or titles like ‘Bride’ in embroidery, paint or sequins.
d) Virginal
Or if you want to cultivate the innocent, vestal virgin look, there’s always the purity of white. Choosing something suggestive or sexy, but in virginal white, provides a nice touch of the bridal, but with contrasting shades of the sensual underlying it. Whether you decide to splurge and indulge yourself while shopping for your honeymoon or adopt the minimalist approach (with the idea that you’re anyway not going to be wearing a lot most of the time, after all it is your honeymoon!) have fun and let yourself go. It's a time to truly relax and enjoy being newlyweds because, while you may take other trips together as a couple, a honeymoon is a very special time, suspended between the enjoyment of wedding festivities and the reality of beginning a married life together.
