Single parent dating

There is nothing that makes a group of men, or any individual man, cringe faster than the notion of dating a single mom.  A consensus for today’s single man is that single mom = baggage, and most men will shy away from it.  On the other hand, for this reason, many men also view the single mom as a great opportunity for a fling. Today’s family has changed.  It is 2008 and the United States Census indicates that America is home to over 11 million single parents.  The chances that you as a single man will find yourself dating one then, are pretty good.

There are many cases of singles - divorced, widowed or never been married, never had kids, who are taken with the idea of a tailor-made family. And consider yourself really fortunate if you find someone who yearned for kids but didn't have any because their partner wasn't agreeable. Or even someone who just loves kids, it doesn't matter whose they are. So don't limit your options.

When you do start dating, go out with several different people before narrowing down the field. This not only gives you the chance for some uncomplicated fun but also doesn't leave the kids feeling too threatened that you're getting serious with someone so soon.

Taking care of kids and bringing them up is a major responsibility. And going it alone, as a single parent, makes it even more difficult. Whatever the background, whether you are a single parent by design or accident, as a victim of divorce or an unwed mother, you've got to do one of the toughest jobs single-handedly.

Once the discomfort of the first meeting is over, if you think it's gone well try and gauge the reactions from both sides. Try and judge if your date is being overly enthusiastic about the kids, a possible sign that he's faking it. If he suggests future outings and tries to include the kids in your plans, he might really like them.

As men and women begin to reach their golden years, they often feel that they have lived their lives and there is nothing new and exciting to look forward to. Especially if you are single, either by choice or left widowed or divorced, with nobody to share your days with, life suddenly seems dull.
