Kiwi men facing women-drought
A rising number of men in earthquake-struck Christchurch are finding it difficult to find a perfect partner for themselves as young and professional females are leaving the city to work elsewhere.
FindSomeone manager Rick Davies revealed that an unusually high number of Christchurch males were flocking to his dating website.
"In Canterbury there was a huge surge in the New Year in males signing up, as opposed to females," Stuff.co.nz quoted Davies as saying.
He insisted that the lack of bars and natural shyness of some men had them turning to dating websites.
Growing fears about dearth of women came after a research indicated that female employees were hit hardest by job losses after the February 22 earthquake.
A Ministry of Women's Affairs study divulged that women accounted for 70 per cent of job losses in the city. Women constituted 90 per cent of the 12,600 jobs lost in the retail and accommodation industries. (ANI)
