Texting has had a far-reaching impact on how men and women interact. Communication has now become faster, shorter and some would say, hipper. Apart from being a fun way to flirt with someone you like, it is no increasingly being used as a relatively safer way to start a conversation. So if there is someone who has caught your eye and you wish to know better, here are some great texting conversation starters.
“Guess what happened to me yesterday?” Such a text keeps things simple and can be used as a safe way to begin a conversation – where you go from here is however a different matter.
“If u had 24 hours left to live, how would u spend the rest of your life?” This is another good idea when you are texting someone new and wish to get to know him/her better.
“So, what are you doing this very second – apart from thinking about me!”
'Tell Me Honey...2000 Questions for Couples' has 2000 questions you can ask your partner. Many of these can be great conversation openers.
“What did you think of school today?" this usually works as a nice conversation starter if you and the girl or guy are in the same class. If the reply is something like "OK" or "Pretty normal," you could ask what he or she thought of the homework, the science experiment you did or the book report due in next week.
“Hey good lookin' what's cookin'?” This classic among conversation starters always works! Not only does it let the person know you think he or she is cute, but it asks him/her a question, so that the receiver of your text is more compelled to respond and you have a nice conversation running in no time at all.
“You just popped into my head and I thought I’d say Hi”. This is another great way to start a conversation without coming off as too forward or annoying.
“Great Jacket!” Or shoes. Or purse – you get the idea. Everyone loves to be complimented. Be sincere, pick out one specific thing you liked about this guy or girl and then use it to say something nice. More likely than not, this will get the two of you talking.
“Knock knock!!! I thought I heard a thud....just wanted to know if it was you!"
“I was trying to daydream, but my mind kept wandering. Hi...."
“Hey want to catch a Giants game?” – such a text offers a nice way to start conversation with a relative stranger – about whom the only thing you know is that he/she is a New York Giants fan. In fact texts about common interests are a safe yet fun way to get to know new people. If things go well, you can follow up the text with a suggestion that you meet at a sports bar where a Giants game may be playing on the large screen or if you are lucky, to an actual game itself.
“What are you having for lunch? Can I join you?” – while this opens a way for a casual meeting, minus the pressures of a formal date, bear in mind that the guy or girl may have a meeting or an important deadline lined up at work.
“I woke up today and thought something was missing. So I got up from my bed, grabbed my cell phone and sent you a greeting. Good morning” Such a text works both as a Good Morning greeting and leaves open the chance to carry on further conversation
“Hey, stop thinking about me ;-)..wass up?" Such a text is ideal for someone you know a bit and wish to get flirty with.
“Try to read this and not think of me” this is another suggestion on the above idea as above.
“with compliments from the guy/girl you met the other day” – Want to break the ice but not sure how to do it? Buy the guy or girl a drink and have the bartender deliver it; follow it up with a text that will let him/her know you were the sender! Once he/she receives the text, you can follow up by going over to introduce yourself.
“Need another?” This can be an interesting variation of the above text. Whether it’s the local coffee shop or the neighborhood bar, if you see someone interesting and notice he or she’s running low, an offer to “refill” can be the perfect way to strike up a conversation.
“How was that donut, did you save me a bite?” – this is a fun way to start a conversation with a guy or girl after you have found out something about him/her – probably because you overheard him/her mentioning their lunch break in the elevator. After he/she expresses surprise at your text, come clean about how you found out though since you don’t want to be labeled a stalker.
“That’s a lovely dog! What kind is it?” Maybe you’ve seen the guy or girl walk his/her puppy at the park and wanted to strike up a conversation. Most people with pets love to talk about their “best friends” and are open to this kind of approach.
“I wanted to send u something nice that would make u smile but the postman told me to get out of the mailbox! Hello...what are you up to?"
“Hey, thanks for that inventive rendition of (whatever song title she sang). What other talents should I be leery of?” This is especially apt for a girl or a guy you may have noticed at a party engaged in Karaoke singing with a group of friends. Best of all, it will pique her interest since your text does not trudge the beaten path of overt praise.
“He took me from a bar. He took me in his car. He took my top off. He puts his lips on mine, but don't worry: I'm a bottle of wine!...what were you thinking????" – more often than not humor is the best way to start a conversation – whether you are trying to break the ice with someone you barely know or getting flirty with a partner.
“I bet my weekend can beat up your weekend.” This is a particularly great text since it not only gets off a conversation but can eventually lead to a date too.
“I’m lying in bed and bored. Do you want to play Simon Says?” If you are angling for a sexually suggestive conversation, this could be a great opener.
“Out of all the (first name) (last name)’s I know… i think your my favorite” Use the person’s full name and you can have a fun, flirty conversation going on at full speed.
“Hey babe. I’m getting ready to go to work. I’ve got something in my hands that made me think of you…” the thing in reality could be anything from a lipstick to a lollipop – but as the guy or girl tries to find out that it is, you will have a full-fledged conversation going.
