Michigan, a midwestern state in the United States, is located in the east north central portion of the country. It means "big lake" and is bounded by four of the five Great Lakes - Lake Erie, Lake Huron, Lake Michigan and Lake Superior Michigan, and consequently has the longest freshwater shoreline in the United States. In fact, in Michigan it is all about water – apart from the Great Lakes surrounding it, Michigan also has about 11,000 lakes inland.

Couples are always looking for scenic locations for romantic vacations and what could be better than a lakefront vacation? Fresh air, serene, crystal waters, a backdrop of snow-capped mountains and lush forest vegetation... all make up for the scenic background of a romantic vacation.

New Caledonia, located between Fiji and Australia, has a distinct feel of Paris and is reminiscent of everything French, right from designer wear boutiques to the dining experiences.

The capital Nouméa is located on Grande Terre and the majority of inhabitants are scattered among seven islands. New Caledonia is also renowned for having the largest lagoon in the world. For the connoisseur of cuisine, every palate is catered to, ranging from French, Moroccan and Italian to Japanese and Chinese fare.

Tonga is the only monarchy in the South Pacific and is sometimes referred to as its ‘Crown Jewel’. It is made up of 170 smaller islands divided into four main island groups and it lies roughly between Samoa and New Zealand.

The Solomon Islands is the second largest chain of islands, lying between Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea. It comprises 900 odd islands, only about one third of which are inhabited. It is a land of mixed cultures and heritages, with people from different Pacific races right from Micronesians to Polynesians and Papuans co-habiting together.

Samoa has been made even more famous by the legendary Robert Louis Stevenson, who spent his last years on this island, which is popularly known as the ‘treasured island’ of the South Pacific. It lies between the Cook Islands and Fiji and is made up of four inhabited islands, while the rest are virgin. They are clustered together and therefore, more easily accessible.

French Polynesia comprises 118 little islands spread across five archipelagos. Tahiti is located on one of them, the Society Islands. Tahiti sparkles with its blue seas, white sands and greenery. It has become famous due to the ‘Mutiny on the Bounty’ and the vivid adventures told of Captain Bligh and his crew. Painters, writers, and artists alike have waxed eloquent through their works on Tahiti and her wonders as well as the beauty of her inhabitants.

The Cook Islands number about fifteen. With a population of about 18,000 inhabitants, it is marked by the warmth and friendliness of the locals. Most of the population (about two-thirds) is concentrated on the main island of Rarotunga. The next most populated island is Aitutaki. The rest of the islands are more sparsely populated with just about a thousand or less residents on each. The Cook Islands are sandwiched between Tahiti and Fiji and are located in the center of the Polynesian triangle between French Polynesia and Tonga.

The South Pacific is a conglomeration of little islands, one more beautiful than the next. The idyllic setting of the islands, its tropical climate year-round and friendly people make it one of the all-time favourite vacation spots. Added to these the highly developed tourism industry and a setting ideal for some fun and frolicm, makes it a hot spot for honeymooners looking for a romantic getaway.
