Europe is a fabulous vacation destination and it has endless diversity of experiences to soak in. History, culture, art, philosophy, music, theatre, architecture, sport, cuisine and color...a European vacation will leave you enriched with a multitude of experiences. From North to South and East to West, every European country has something unique to offer the senses - the sights, the sounds, the taste and all else. Enchantment rules in Britain, the official region comprising England, Scotland and Wales. Britain is a land of legends where folklore and romance combine, with the background of ancient castles and vibrant cities. London, its capital city, is usually rated as the top vacation spot in Europe in spite of also being one among the costliest. Samuel Johnson once said, "There is in London that all life can afford." It is rich in history, in architecture, in cultural experiences, in nightlife and even in cuisine. Tower of London is a big attraction, a somber witness to an era of torture and murder by British kings and queens.’ You can cross the Millennium Bridge to visit the famous Tate Modern which houses works of art masters like Salvador Dali and Matisse.
Head next to Westminster Abbey, the famous British church where royals have been crowned, married and buried alongside men of letters like Tennyson, Browning and Charles Dickens. Under the Abbey are the Cabinet War Rooms, an underground bunker where Churchill and his team chalked out strategy during the Second World War. The British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Buckingham Palace are other draws. For some leisure, take a stroll through London’s many parks or its markets like Portobello Road Market on Saturdays. The best way to get around is by the subway. London is suited for history buffs and English literature fans of legends like Shakespeare or Sherlock Holmes. From the Big Ben to fish and chips, Britain offers the best of tourist experiences. Take a spin around the quaint Roman Georgian village of Bath, Shakespeare’s Cotswold’s to rugged Wales and the Lake Districts. Among other England tourist spots is York, which has the longest, best-preserved town walls in England. It is 3.4 km long and has 45 towers. Some of the festivals in this region are the National Eisteddfod of Wales, a traveling folk festival, and the Edinburgh festival, a fine arts festival in early September. Harry Potter fans can now make pilgrimages throughout Britain, where the movies were filmed. Among the attractions is the 84-mile Hogwartz Express steam train journey, which leaves from Fort William, Scotland. Not far from England are Republic and Northern Ireland. They have some spectacular scenery and fine historic spots. Friendly people and a rich history attract you to places like Dublin, Waterford, the Aran Islands, Dingle Peninsula, Belfast and Londonderry. For preserving local culture, some of the regions may have signs in the local language (Gaelic).
