South Pacific Honeymoons - Fiji

The South Pacific is a conglomeration of little islands, one more beautiful than the next. The idyllic setting of the islands, its tropical climate year-round and friendly people make it one of the all-time favourite vacation spots. Added to these the highly developed tourism industry and a setting ideal for some fun and frolicm, makes it a hot spot for honeymooners looking for a romantic getaway.

The South Pacific has many islands - more prominent among them are Fiji, Cook Islands, Tahiti, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and New Caledonia. There are a few other, slightly lesser known ones like Niue, Tuvalu, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu.

Fiji

Among the islands of the South Pacific, Fiji occupies a prime location geographically and it is one of the most well-known of the South Pacific islands. It has rightly been called the ‘Crossroads of the South Pacific’. It comprises a group of smaller islands, over 300 in number, but less than half - in fact only about a hundred - are inhabited. Many of the islands are volcanic, though currently in a dormant state and have hot springs which are therapeutic and can be invigorating.

The climate is equable for the most part, with no drastic variations or extremes. There is a cooler phase between May and October and a hotter season from November to April. February and March is a good time to avail of discounted rates at hotels and resorts and if it coincides with the time you plan your honeymoon, you’ll get a romantic getaway at a steal!

There is a wide variety of flora and fauna found here. There are areas that are thickly forested and other parts that are covered with coconut groves, just like you picture a typical island setting. Fiji is one of the cheaper groups of islands in the South Pacific with resorts catering to different budgets. Fiji has two major islands – Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
